Drain bottoms have loose boulders in channels with banks lined by basswood. Basswood also dominates slopes above plot (MONF.507);West facing side slope of large cove, just above a high gradient, bouldery, ephemeral headwater creek. Community is a deciduous forest dominated by large red oaks with sugar maple in canopy and dominant in the subcanopy. Herb layer dominated by tall, nutrient demanding forbs, some already senescent at sample date. Red oak probably established after clearing during logging/ fire boom in early 1900's. Red oak not likely to persist without disturbance.
